Garay Cellar
The cellar offers a room for 55 people, for seated tasting. Garay cellar is located in the heart of Szekszárd,
in a pedestrian precinct, between the squares Garay and King Béla I., which is the oldest wine cellar
of the country.
Its history dates back to the 11th century. In 1063 King Béla I. built it and donated it to the
abbey. The cellar was then used by the monks of the Benedictine abbey founded in 1061. The tithe wine
of the abbey was stored here. The cellar system was built during the era of Zsigmond abbot (1439-1457)
in its full extent. Several parts still present the works of the old workers. In 1856 the country’s first wine
dealer company was founded in Szekszárd, which managed the cellar for a long time.
Now a wine shop is
operating there and the first winebar of Szekszárd will open here in the near future. The historic cellar is an
excellent location for the organisation of
tasting és
and other wine-related events.
Kadarka terem:
The Kadarka saloon is located in Szentgál, in the wine house. It is a rustic brick-covered room, which can
host 90-100 persons, tasting and other meals can be organised here. The room offers own toilets.
Kandalló (Fireplace) saloon
Many call this a Cavalier Room for its medieval mood. 28 persons can eat and entertain here in royal circumstances. In its centre we can find a fireplace, which dominates the mood of the room.
The Saloon of the Castle
An elegant room, suitable to seat 60 persons comfortably, at round tables. Meals with elegant diner-sets, served comfortably. Of course many more can be seated in a theatre-like form.
